RESPECT SCHOLARS Program

Join the RESPECT Scholars Program for a transformative journey towards professional growth and excellence, drawing on the collective expertise of all three University of Nebraska campuses.

The RESPECT Scholars Program aims to strengthen the state’s early childhood workforce by creating equitable, accessible and culturally sustaining early childhood teacher preparation pathways. This unique initiative provides personalized and flexible program development and opportunities for individuals actively engaged in full-time roles within the early childhood field. Successful candidates can expect tailored navigational and financial support, allowing them to seamlessly balance their professional commitments while advancing their education in early childhood.

Who is the program for?

Individuals working full-time within the early childhood field and who intend to pursue teacher certification and a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education at one of these campuses:

  • University of Nebraska at Kearney
  • University of Nebraska at Omaha
  • University of Nebraska–Lincoln

What does the program offer?

  • Funding for a minimum of 90% tuition, books and related fees.
  • Flexible course options, including hybrid, online and in-person formats.
  • Navigational support and personalized advising.
  • Annual stipend.
  • Activities to foster connections among RESPECT Scholars.

What is required?

Candidates must:

  • Meet admissions requirements set by their preferred campus.
  • Currently work at least 30 hours per week in early childhood education.
  • Hold either an associates (AA) degree or have completed at least 60 credit hours at a post-secondary institution.

Apprenticeship Program

Applications are due September 30, 2024

Partnering with RESPECT Across Nebraska, Nebraska AEYC has launched the Early Childhood Education Apprenticeship Program. Offered through the RESPECT Scholars Program, the apprenticeship pathway provides eligible apprentices with support as they work toward an AA degree in Early Childhood Education. Supports will include:

  • T.E.A.C.H. scholarship towards an AA degree in early childhood
  • $2400 stipend per year
  • Receive regular visits with a mentor
  • On-the-job training
  • Individualized professional development
  • Ability to earn college credit for prior learning
